Interview Summary
Sean Woods played basketball for the University of Kentucky from 1988-1992. During his first three years as a player, UK's basketball team was on probation due to NCAA sanctions for recruiting and academic violations. In this interview, Woods discusses his childhood and high school experiences with sports, being recruited and choosing to play for the University of Kentucky, and the effects of the team's probation on his life and mental state. He talks about the transition from Coach Eddie Sutton to Coach Rick Pitino, and his impressions of Pitino's coaching style. He discusses in detail each of his four years with the team, including many memorable games. Woods discusses his senior year, 1991-1992, during which the team won the SEC Tournament and went to the regional final against Duke University. He describes the historic game against Duke University, which led to Woods' class, "The Unforgettables," being honored by having their jerseys retired. Woods describes his career after graduating from UK, as a player as well as a basketball coach. He talks about how players have changed over time and how coaching must change in response.Interview Accession
