Interview Summary
Eleanora Iberall “Norrie” Robbins discusses her time as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Tanzania from 1964-1966. Robbins was the first female geologist with the Geological Survey of Tanzania in Dodoma when she arrived as a Peace Corps volunteer. She signed up after graduating from Ohio State University. She describes how, in Dodoma, she plotted notebooks full of geochemical data onto maps for others to explore. She goes on to discuss her other activities in Dodoma, her time in Kenya and her career after the Peace Corps. Since retirement, Norrie has been teaching outdoors science to kids from fifteen Indian Reservations in San Diego and was awarded an La Jolla and Pauma Reservations, “Environmental Hero Award” for her service.Interview Accession
