Project: Peace Corps: COVID-19 Evacuated Peace Corps Volunteers Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Earvin Casciano served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Fiji from August 2018 through March 2020, working in the Youth Development Sector. Earvin was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Ft. Dix, New Jersey at a young age. He first heard about Peace Corps in high school, and applied while he was serving as an AmeriCorps volunteer. His training was conducted in the Fijian village of Navunisole, where he stayed with a host family. After training, Earvin moved to his work site at Vunidamoli village on the island of Vanua Levu. His work was with village youth, who ranged from pre-teens through young adults, up to age 35. His time was divided between schools, and work in the village. He completed several projects in the community, funded by local fundraising, and by grants. He formed close, personal relationships with his fellow villagers. His service was cut short due to COVID-19 related evacuation of volunteers.Interview Accession
