Interview Summary
In this interview with Betty Lester she discusses her decision to come to the Frontier Nursing Service after her midwifery training in England, and talks about her arrival in Leslie County, Kentucky. She talks about her relationship with the local people she served through the FNS, and how they slowly began to accept her over time. Lester talks about her career with the FNS and the various positions she has held there. She talks about Mary Breckinridge's strict standards and expectations of the FNS nurses.[The topics covered in this interview are discussed in greater detail in two additional interviews with Betty Lester.
