Interview Summary
This interview with Knott County (Ky.) Solid Waste Ecology Officer Roger Hicks begins with a brief discussion of his background before moving onto the topic of educating young people about environmental issues. Hicks then talks about the costly litter abatement program in Knott County (Ky.), before moving back to the topic of environmental education and Eastern Kentucky Personal Responsibility in a Desirable Environment (PRIDE) Clubs at schools in Eastern Kentucky. Next, Hicks explores the topic of using inmates to pick up litter, before talking at length about illegal dumping in Knott County (Ky.). He also discusses the topic of the septic system program and talks about the reasons that this program is underutilized. Next, Hicks talks about the efforts that Eastern Kentucky Personal Responsibility in a Desirable Environment (PRIDE) has made in improving the litter problem in Eastern Kentucky. He then talks about the difficulties inherent in mandating recycling, as well as his work with judges and courts. Finally, Hicks ends the interview by making suggestions to improve the feasibility of Eastern Kentucky Personal Responsibility in a Desirable Environment (PRIDE) Clubs before briefly talking about a supergrant site that required clean up in Knott County (Ky.)Interview Accession
